Planting Anna & Bailey's Trees

I've blogged before about planting a tree for each of our grand kids.  The time was right to plant Anna and Bailey's tree and it was just as exciting as our first planting with Pierce.

We chose a Burgundy Heart Redbud tree for Anna. The heart-shaped leaves remain burgundy throughout the season.  Pink-lavender flowers appear before the leaves in the spring.  It's drought tolerant and grows to be 20-25 feet tall and 25-35 feet wide.

Grandpa gets all the fun digging the holes.
Anna was very happy about the occasion and proud of her tree.
It takes a group to plant these trees as you put dirt in the hold and around the tree.
And then you take it out.
 She is such the perfectionist.
Ready to go plant Bailey's tree.
Where is that key?  I just saw Grandma use it.

We selected a Chinese Pistache tree for Bailey.
Regarded by many knowledgeable horticulturists as one of the most beautiful, pest free and easily maintained shade trees for the Southwest. The Pistache forms a spreading, umbrella-like canopy which at maturity is 40-50 feet high with a width of 30 feet an ideal size to provide shade for single-story homes. The first shade tree to receive the coveted "Earth-Kind" designation from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service for its high levels of genetic resistance to insect and disease problems.
Outstanding adaptability, fruit set, only on female trees, consisting of clusters of small, round green berries which turn red to reddish-purple in the fall. These fruit clusters make excellent table decorations. And while inedible for humans, the fruit is relished by birds.
Daddy had to lend a helping hand to this project as time was of the essence of getting this completed.

Bailey was having her own fun while we were playing in the dirt.

 Ta Da!
After thoroughly watering Anna and Bailey's tree Anna thought it would be a good idea to water Pierce's.  After all....isn't that what cousins are for?

Keith was messing with Anna and would make the water stop and then let it go.  Anna would get a face full and thought that it was hilarious.

We are grateful we have the space to plant these trees and grateful for our grandkids.  Next up is Asher and Logan.  Can't wait to see what we find for them.

Friendship Group at the Arboretum

One of my favorite events with the Friendship Group is going to the Arboretum.  I love the venue, love being outdoors with my picnic basket listening to music and love the people.  The cover band was Credence Clear Water.  It was funny because the crowd was an older crowd but we all knew the words to  almost every song.  It was a beautiful spring evening and we couldn't have asked for a better evening.  Enjoy our evening!
